The Eighteenth Sunday of Ordinary Time August 03, 2008
Pastor’s
Message:
As you well know we live in
a rather complicated world today. There was a time in the not so
distant past where if you lived on a farm, you could pretty much
support yourself. But today we must depend upon so many other
people to maintain our life style. To enable us to meet all of
the demands placed on us there is a great need for volunteers. It
is amazing the number of people today who serve humanity as Volunteers
and the tremendous hours they put in serving the needs of others.
We would not be able to do all we achieve here in this small
Parish if we did not have the Volunteers who assist us.
Today I would like to call your attention to another group of Volunteers who are
extremely important in our community. They are the Volunteer
Fire Fighters. Until you experience a fire or some other such
emergency you may not fully appreciate all they do. They risk
their lives to save yours and your property. For them to carry on
their work they must from time to time call upon you to support them.
It takes a lot of money to supply and operate their fire
apparatus. One simple and even pleasant way to support them is by
coming out for the North Point/Edgemere Volunteer Fire Fighters
Carnival. There will be Fireworks on Monday and a parade on
Friday. Come out and support the Volunteer Fire Department and
have some fun for yourself. I hope you never have to call them
but if you do they will be there for you. All they ask is that
you be there for them this week with your support for their annual
Carnival.

We are blessed in this moment of time. We are about to

make a part of us. Let's welcome God in prayer. Thank you
Lord for coming to me, calling me to hear you in a special way.
Come Word of God into my heart. Amen.

How Hospitable is Your Parish:
What draws people to our Parishes and keeps them coming? I
would say It's first of all the Parishioners and their willingness to
reach out to newcomers and visitors. Then the music and homilies.
When asked by people attend a particular Parish, most often the
response is that it is warm and friendly and made them feel welcome.
Someone once asked me how to get people to arrive at Mass on time and
not leave early. After consideration I came to the conclusion
that it's a matter of relationship, a feeling of connection. I
believe that if one really feels like a part of the community, one is
more likely to arrive on time and sty until the end, just like a family
event.
