PALM/PASSION SUNDAY March 16, 2008
Pastor’s
Message:
The
Holy Season of Lent is just about over. I do hope it has been for
all of you a rich time of spiritual growth. Now we focus in on
the greatest events of our Religion, those events that are commemorated
each year of Holy Week. Everyone seems to be so busy with much to
do and so little time to do it in. I encourage everyone to stop--
take sometime to share with us the great events of this week.
While it may be designated as a Holy Day of Obligation, there are
few other days in the year more holy than Holy Thursday. That is
the day Jesus instituted the Mass and the Sacraments of Holy Eucharist
and Holy Orders. With Holy Orders Jesus gave us Priests-- who
could celebrate Mass and consecrate bread and wine to give us the Body
and Blood of Jesus. What could be more valuable than that.
You would think that every Catholic would want to come to Mass
that day to celebrate the great and marvelous events of that day.
Then on Friday, while that is the only day of the year when there
is no Mass we commemorate the sacred day when Jesus sacrificed His life
so that we could have eternal life. Jesus cared enough for us to
suffer and die for us. Can't we care enough for Him to come share in
the Good Friday Liturgy. Finally, next Sunday we will celebrate
Easter, that day when Jesus rose from the dead and clearly proved He
was the Son of God. Easter is the greatest Feast of the Church
year. Without Easter there most likely would be no Church.
I encourage you to participate in all of the events of Holy Week.
It is hard to imagine there is anything you have to do that is
more important than that.
Msgr. Joseph S. Lizor,
Jr.
